About Us
Coined in 2014, the Grant Wood Trails System encompasses all trail and bike facilities within the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPOs) planning area . Every year, the Corridor MPO allocates federal transportation dollars to trail projects. These allocations supplement local funds to improve and expand the existing trail system. Regional trail projects to receive funds are identified in the Corridor MPOs Long-Range Transportation Plan while local projects are identified in the Cedar Rapids Comprehensive Trails Plan and the Marion Master Trails Plan.
Currently, the Grant Wood Trails system continues to expand upon the current 220 miles of off-street facilities and over 100 miles of on-street facilities in the Cedar Rapids Corridor Region. The system connects multiple jurisdictions, including Cedar Rapids, Ely, Fairfax, Hiawatha, unincorporated Linn County, Marion, and Robins. Future trail projects are expected to continue to strengthen the connections between these jurisdictions found throughout the Corridor MPO’s boundary.
